StarPaw Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 27, 2026
StarPaw is a product of AktivPack, operated by Axel Molina (“StarPaw,” “we,” or “us”). This policy explains what information StarPaw holds, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It’s written in plain language on purpose — a policy you can’t read isn’t disclosure.
Two kinds of people use StarPaw, and the difference matters throughout:
- Walkers — independent professionals who run their dog-walking businesses on StarPaw.
- Dog owners — a walker’s clients, who use StarPaw to see their dog’s walks and photos.
A walker keeps information about their own clients inside StarPaw. So a walker is both someone whose data we hold and someone who is responsible for the data they put in. If you’re an owner, the walker you hired decided what to record about you and your dog; we store and process it so they can run their service.
1. What we collect
Because you gave it to us
- Your phone number. It’s how you sign in. There are no passwords.
- Your email address. Collected when you create your account, and confirmed so we know it reaches you. It is how we send receipts and account notices, and how you can get back in if you change your phone number. We do not currently use it to sign you in.
- Your name and profile photo, and for walkers, your business details, service area and rates.
- Your clients and their dogs (entered by walkers): owner names, phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, emergency and veterinary contacts, and details about the dog — medical notes, medications, feeding, behaviour, and access instructions.
- Home entry codes, where a walker records one. These are stored encrypted.
- Photos and video taken on walks or uploaded to a dog’s stream.
- Money records — payments and balances a walker tracks with their clients. StarPaw records these; it never moves money and is not a bank or payment processor.
- Anything you type or say to Dog Star AI, including voice.
Because the app produced it
- Walk routes. When a walker records a walk, StarPaw stores the GPS trail — a series of timestamped locations — along with times and which dogs were on it. These are kept; they’re what draws the map on a walk. The trail is only recorded while the walker’s phone is awake with StarPaw open, so it is usually partial: the map shows the parts that were recorded, and a walk with too little of one shows no map at all.
- Photo metadata. When a photo is uploaded, StarPaw reads what the camera recorded — the coordinates and the time it was taken — keeps those in its own records, and strips them from the image file it stores and serves. Anyone who views or saves that photo gets the picture without the metadata. Coordinates read this way are used to show where a walk’s photos were taken, and are never shown within a short distance of a home.
- Your device’s location while you use location features, which the app also uses to give Dog Star AI a sense of where you are when you ask it something.
- Basic technical and usage data — pages visited, actions taken, your IP address, browser and device type — to keep the service working and understand how it’s used. See “How our analytics work” below, because this is narrower than it sounds.
- Session cookies, to keep you signed in.
- One first-party cookie that remembers how you found us — if you arrived by scanning a poster
or a card, it stores that poster’s or card’s short tag (for example
card-1) for up to a year, so that when you apply we know which one worked. It holds nothing about you, it is readable only by StarPaw, and it is never shared with anyone. StarPaw does not use advertising cookies and does not run third-party ad trackers.
2. What we do with it
We use it to operate StarPaw: to sign you in, show a walker their day, record walks, deliver photos to the right owners, keep money records straight, answer what you ask Dog Star AI, notify you, and keep the service secure and working.
We do not sell your information. We don’t share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we don’t use your photos, voice, or notes to train AI models.
Two kinds of email, and only one is optional. We will always email you about your account — sign-in, receipts, anything affecting your service; that is part of using StarPaw and there is no way to switch it off while you have an account. Product updates — what’s new, what got fixed — are separate and entirely optional: you opt in by ticking a box that starts unticked, every one of those emails carries an unsubscribe link, and you can change your mind any time in Settings without emailing anyone.
How our analytics work
Most apps hand their analytics to an outside company. StarPaw doesn’t:
- It stays here. Usage data is recorded into StarPaw’s own database. There is no Google Analytics, no third-party analytics service, and no tracking pixel — nothing about your visit is sent to another company for this purpose.
- Your IP address is never turned into a location. We store it as part of the technical record of a visit; we don’t look up where it is, and we don’t build a location profile from it.
- No advertising, no tracking across other sites. No ad cookies, no ad networks, no data brokers, and no way for anyone to follow you from StarPaw to somewhere else.
What we record is a small set of named events — a page viewed, a sign-in, a signup approved — kept so we can count things honestly over time. (Some of it exists because the alternative was worse: signing out deletes your session record, so without a durable event we would silently lose count of how many people ever signed in.)
Separately from analytics: location. StarPaw does use your device’s real location, but for the walk features you can see — drawing the map of a walk, ordering a route, and giving Dog Star AI a sense of where you are when you ask it something. That’s described in §1 and §4. The point of this section is narrower: your IP address isn’t used to work out where you are.
3. Photos are shared with the pack — this is how StarPaw works
StarPaw is built around sharing walk photos with owners. When several dogs are walked together, photos from that walk are visible to the owners of every dog on it. That’s a deliberate part of the product, not an accident: it’s the dog’s day as it actually happened, pack and all.
Once a photo is shared, it can’t be fully unshared — an owner may already have saved it.
If you’re a walker, you’re responsible for what you photograph and share. If you’re an owner and you’d rather a photo weren’t in your dog’s stream, you can remove it from the stream yourself, and you can ask your walker not to share particular things.
4. Who else sees your information
We use a small number of service providers to run StarPaw. They process information on our behalf, for the purposes below, and not for their own.
| Provider | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Google Cloud Storage | Photos and video, in a private bucket — files are served only through short-lived signed links, never public URLs |
| Twilio | Sends the SMS code you use to sign in |
| Stripe | Walker subscription billing. Card details go to Stripe directly; we never see or store your card number |
| Resend | Sends email such as your invitation |
| Google (Gemini) | Powers Dog Star AI conversations |
| OpenAI | Converts your speech to text so Dog Star AI can answer |
| Google Maps / Places / Routes | Address lookup, travel times and route optimisation |
| Mapbox | Draws the maps you see |
| OpenWeatherMap | Weather shown against walks |
What Dog Star AI is given. To answer a question about a dog, we send that dog’s relevant details to the AI provider — which can include the home address, contact names and phone numbers, and veterinary or emergency-hospital details, together with your approximate location at the time. Entry codes are deliberately excluded and are never sent. Voice recordings are sent for transcription and are not retained by us afterwards; the resulting text conversation is kept so you have a history.
Beyond service providers, we may disclose information if the law requires it, or where we believe it is necessary to protect someone’s safety, or a dog’s.
5. How long we keep it, and how it’s protected
We keep information for as long as your account is active, because it is the service — a walk from last spring is a record a walker may need. Photos, walks, money records and AI conversations persist until deleted.
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Photos live in a private bucket reachable only by signed link. Entry codes are encrypted in the database. Sign-in is a one-time code to your phone, so there is no password to leak.
No system is perfectly secure, and StarPaw is beta software. Please don’t treat it as your only copy of anything that matters to your business.
6. Your choices
- See your information. It’s in the app — that’s what the app is.
- Correct it. Walkers can edit dogs, clients and records; owners can edit their own details and curate their dog’s stream.
- Delete your account and its data. Email axel@starpaw.app and we’ll delete it. There is no self-service delete button in the app yet; during the beta this is done by hand, by us.
- Get a copy. Ask, and we’ll export what we hold for you.
- Stop location collection in your device settings — the walk map and route features depend on it, so they won’t work fully.
If you’re a dog owner and want data your walker entered corrected or removed, ask your walker first — it’s their record of their client. If that doesn’t resolve it, write to us.
7. Children
StarPaw is for professional dog walkers and their clients. It isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we’ll delete it.
8. Where we operate
StarPaw is operated from the United States, and the providers above process information there. If you use StarPaw from elsewhere, your information is handled in the US.
9. Changes
We’ll update this policy as StarPaw changes, and the date at the top will tell you when. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we’ll tell you rather than rely on you noticing.
10. Contact
Questions, corrections, deletions, anything at all — axel@starpaw.app. It reaches Axel directly.
